Right in the centre of town, Sakana-tei is definitely one of the best places to go in London for great Japanese sushi, sashimi, or an 'izakaya' style dinner. A family-run restaurant, with a casual atmosphere and friendly service, there is a sushi bar on the ground floor as well as additional tables downstairs.
Top tip: drag your Japanese friend along to your meal here! There is a blackboard menu you are shown written only in Japanese, which includes all the seasonal and special dishes. Although they do have a regular menu in English that has all the standard favourites, there is so much variety they serve at Sakana-tei which is best found in Japanese.
The fish here is probably the best thing to order, however, the meat as well as all the other vegetable are of high quality and so close to what you might expect in Japan. The sashimi is one of the best you will find in London, and I could probably be happy eating here every evening if I could!
The price might rack up, depending on how much you order, but they do make sure that they bring the right amount of servings per dish for the number of people you are dining with. If you fancy an evening of being transported to Japan with a few glasses of sake, go to Sakana-tei and you'll be pretty close!
